      In its continued quest to provide customers higher quality products and expanded services, Ursa Major has added a Hexagon Metrology 4.5.4 SF Coordinate Measurement Machine. It features a 14″ x 20″ x 14″ measurement envelope and can handle parts weighing up to 350 lbs. It also uses PC-DIMIS CAD software for full compatibility with most mechanical CAD packages.

Ursa Major has acquired a new Machining  center it is a HAAS VF-4 super speed with a super speed 4th axis. This machine saves time by running everything faster. It is also eco-friendly with a minimal lubrication system it also has a minimal quantity coolant spray system to reduce coolant use.

Ursa Major Has Made an Investment

Ursa Major has made an investment in hydraulic clamping to increase speed and accuracy. With this new method for clamping and positioning our processes are streamlined and save our customers expense and deliver their products sooner. One of the first projects we used this on was an order for triangle shaped parts used in decorating a new medical facility. By using this new method we had virtually zero scrap material other than the material removed in the drilling and machining processes.

Stirling Engine Parts

James Hawley called us to see if we could help him develop his design of a Stirling engine. Ursa Major helped Jim adjust his design to make it easier and less expensive to make. We made Jim some aluminum cylinders and piston cups with an id and od tolerance of + or – .0005″. We also made some stainless steel tubes with a thinned wall to .030″ and threaded.
